Forum Presentation: EAP Utilization in Chinese Companies
EAP helps organization balance the relation between economic benefit and human capital, improve the communication pattern between employer and employee, and improve coping capability by solving individual problems, providing feedback to organization with quarterly utilization report. In western countries, employee can have an easy access to many mental health services from various channels besides EAP. For example, there are 200 thousand individual counselors distributed around US. In addition, there are various communities available to provide social and emotional support, facilitate the mental health service for people in need in neighborhood. The medical care system in foreign country in general can assure people in need have free or low cost mental health care. In contrary, in China, the mental health counseling is very expensive. Therefore, EAP provided by organizations very valuable resource to employees.
There has been small portion of domestic enterprises being in use of EAP, and fully alive to its benefit: some enterprises set up pilot program for part of employees, gradually expand service coverage after seeing positive result. Some multi-national enterprises have already had EAP in headquarters, its employees in china asked for similar services. That prompts these multi-national enterprises to purchase EAP in china. It is hard to calculate an accurate average utilization rate of EAP, due to limited number of customer companies and short length of service. As far as psychcn CGP’s customer company, the utilization rate is 10% to 15%.
